Day 1: Welcome to Bogotá
Stay: Hilton Bogotá Corferias
Morning: Monserrate Hill Adventure
We started our trip by renting a day taxi from the hotel and going to a scenic ride on the funicular to Monserrate Hill. At the top, we explored lush gardens and a beautiful church while soaking in panoramic views of Bogotá. The fresh mountain air was energizing, and some coffee at a hilltop restaurant was a treat! It was a great place for kids to stretch their legs after a long flight the day before and take in the local culture. We also explored lot of the local souvenir shops and bought some gifts for friends like magnets and Colombian coffee bean chocolates.
Afternoon: Explore La Candelaria
We wandered the historic district of La Candelaria, visiting the renowned Gold Museum (Museo del Oro) and admiring colonial architecture and colorful murals. The narrow streets are full of character, and the vibrant atmosphere is captivating for both adults and children. Snack time at La Puerta Falsa hot chocolate with cheese and delicious tamales was a memorable local treat.
Evening: Usaquén Charm
Usaquén, with its cobbled streets, quaint shops, and charming square, was the perfect place to wind down. It’s laid-back yet full of life. If you’re there on a Sunday, don’t miss the flea market with artisanal finds and fun snacks. We enjoyed browsing the shops while the kids sampled local sweets.
🌟 Day 2: Science & Nature in Bogotá
Morning: Catedral de Sal
We took the same taxi from Day 1 and headed out to Zipaquirá, where we explored the awe-inspiring Salt Cathedral a vast underground church carved into a salt mine. Walking through its dimly lit tunnels, we marveled at the intricate sculptures and crosses carved entirely from salt. The combination of spirituality, history, and geology made it an unforgettable experience. It was both peaceful and surreal, and our kids were fascinated by the underground wonder. There were plenty of options to have snacks and buy souvenirs in this underground cathedral.
Afternoon: Botanical Garden & Simon Bolivar Park
We enjoyed a peaceful walk through the Botanical Garden, admiring native flora. Simon Bolivar Park, nearby, gave the kids a chance to run and play freely—perfect for a midday energy break.
Evening: Parque de la 93 + Flight to Cartagena
We had dinner at one of the many open-air restaurants near Parque de la 93, a lively green space popular with locals. Then we headed to the airport for a short, smooth flight to Cartagena.
🌟 Day 3: Colonial Charm in Cartagena
Stay: Hyatt Regency Cartagena
Morning: Explore the Old Town (Centro Histórico)
We took a guided walking tour of the historic walled city, with its cobblestone streets, flower-draped balconies, and colonial architecture. Plaza de los Coches and Portal de los Dulces offered local treats and beautiful backdrops for family photos.
Lunch: La CevicherĂa
We dined on fresh seafood at one of Cartagena’s famous seafood spots delicious and atmospheric.
Afternoon: Convento de la Popa + Parque del Centenario
From the top of La Popa Monastery, we enjoyed sweeping views of the city. Afterwards, we visited Parque del Centenario, where the kids delighted in spotting iguanas and monkeys among the trees.
🌟 Day 4: Rosario Islands Getaway
Morning: Boat trip to Isla Grande
We caught a boat from Cartagena for a relaxing day trip to Isla Grande in the Rosario Islands. Gente de Mar beach club was perfect for families quiet, safe, and picturesque.
Afternoon: Snorkeling & Sandcastles
The kids had a blast snorkeling in the clear Caribbean waters while we soaked up the sun. We built sandcastles, sipped fruit juices, and simply enjoyed a laid-back beach afternoon.
Evening: Return to Cartagena
After a day in paradise, we returned to our hotel in time to catch the sunset over the ocean.
🌟 Day 5: Cartagena to MedellĂn
Morning: Local Culture & Shopping
We made one last stroll through the historic center and stopped at Serrezuela Mall, a beautifully restored bullring turned shopping complex. Later, we explored the imposing Castillo San Felipe de Barajas.

Lunch: GetsemanĂ neighborhood local art and delicious food at La Cocina de Pepina. The area is full of energy, street music, and murals that captivate both adults and children.
Evening: Flight to MedellĂn
Our short flight to MedellĂn set us up for the next stage of adventure.
🌟 Day 6: MedellĂn Magic
Stay: InterContinental MedellĂn
All-Day: Guatapé Day Trip
This colorful lakeside town was one of our favorite stops. The climb up El Peñol rock was a bit challenging, but the view from the top was worth every step. Afterward, we explored the vibrant streets of Guatapé, known for their decorative panels (zócalos) and friendly locals.
🌟 Day 7: Urban Adventure in MedellĂn
Morning: City Tour + Comuna 13
We joined a guided tour through Comuna 13, once one of MedellĂn’s most dangerous neighborhoods, now transformed with incredible street art, escalators, and music. The story of the area’s rebirth was powerful and inspiring.
Lunch: Provenza area—chic, green, and filled with great dining options. We enjoyed lunch at a casual spot with kid-friendly options.
Afternoon: Metrocable to Parque ArvĂ
The kids loved the cable car ride high above the city. At Parque ArvĂ, we took a gentle hike and enjoyed fresh air and snacks at a local food market.
Evening: Flight to Pereira
🌟 Day 8: Pereira
Stay: Hotel Balmoral Plaza
After arriving late the night before, we took it easy today. A stroll through Plaza de BolĂvar let us absorb the local vibe while the kids watched street performers and fed pigeons.
🌟 Day 9: Cocora Valley Wonder
We took a guided tour to the breathtaking Cocora Valley, home to Colombia’s national tree—the wax palm. The towering palms and cloud forest scenery were jaw-dropping. We hiked a kid-friendly loop trail and stopped for hot cocoa at a mountainside café.

🌟 Day 10:Back to Bogota
Stay: Holiday Inn Bogotá
We returned to Bogotá by afternoon. We spent shopping at local malls and wrapping up our Colombian adventure. We picked up some last-minute souvenirs and local sweets.
🌟 Day 11: Farewell, Colombia
We said goodbye to this colorful, family-friendly country with full hearts and tired feet. Until next time!
